Students reported watching entire families pulled from their cars outside Dublin Scioto High, as ICE staged outside of other schools serving immigrant and refugee communities in Ohio.
This is horrific, and hard to hold onto. Not because I don't believe it - I do. It's savage, revolting, and incomprehensible that ICE employees inflict this kind of violence on KIDS, while others (school and police) stand by and support it through inaction.
I don't live in the states (I'm Canadian), so a lot of this is like an evil mirror universe south of the border that should not be happening in a civilized society. It's what happens in Russia, and what happened in Germany under Hitler - it's not supposed to happen in North America.
Columbus (I assume it's the one in Ohio) is a place I've never been to. I remember it has an Opus Dei education retreat? These ICE assholes are permanently wrecking the meaning of Christmas - a time of compassion and hope (in addition to the random violence they do to people) Because of ICE, Christmas lights are now whats on top of fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars.
The main newspaper in Columbus is "The Columbus Dispatch". Here is what they have been reporting (there is a video statement from the chief of police and the mayor):
So, Mayor Bryant says the city and police department are refusing to assist ICE.
"Columbus police directives do not allow officers to investigate anyone solely based on their immigration status, and officers are not allowed to assist in operations that are solely immigration-focused. Officers are not giving immigration information to ICE either...
Police officers can - and will - investigate allegations of crimes that have occurred, take crash reports (because of ICE tactics used to run cars off roads) and other duties that are part of their normal processes...
If a federal agent requests help in an emergency, such as an agent being injured, officers may respond. Columbus police said they will NOT help in other ways, such as getting involved in chases, if those activities fall outside of the department's policies."
The tone deafness of the cops and school comes from Noem Gnome's directive, that interference in ICE enforcement operations will result in criminal charges - even for local police officers or school officials. They can watch - but not physically stop it.
Unless, the state passes a law like Governer Newsome did for California, where over-reach of any kind of law enforcement is punishable by state law, under its constitution.
In this case, the state can prosecute the ICE agent first, and Trump can't pardon or transfer them to a federal court where an equivalent law doesn't exist (in my opinion).
So, police officers in Columbus are not given any specifics on ICE raids. This way they have no information to give ICE agents. That's where the answer "I don't know" comes from when an officer is asked "what's ICE doing at the school".
The city doesn't give direction to its school board either because of its arm length distance.
Without the right state laws, local officers don't have any tools to arrest ICE agents.
For an ICE agent to be arrested, they would have to BREAK a state law first. And, because there are no over-reach laws, ICE can argue they were doing their job in compliance to FEDERAL laws.

The fact that most of them are 14 year old girls is particularly disconcerting. I suspect that they will be trafficked, exploited, and endure atrocious abuse

And what’s with police officers watching abductions and not knowing who is doing the abductions and not intervening??? They should be ashamed of themselves, as should the lying School Superintendent. !!

That Superintendent, denying there are abductions, arrests, detain and disappear KIDS; is beyond troubling. Where is the school committee on this? Saw police NOT HELPING, but would hope chief would stand up for the people. Heard all police were instructed to help ICE by Noem/DHS. If all ok with this, then this won't be protecting kids and families.

I'm sure Gov DeWine had no problem with ICE. He just eliminated the grace period for receiving voter ballots.
And the T**** stooge Vivek Ramaswamy is running to be the next governor. Let's hope Ohio wakes up and elects Amy Acton. I'd hate to have to avoid the state on my next trip west.
