As I started to read this article I thought- This sound familiar and then I saw the acknowledgement Nursing model- yes. This the corporate nursing model. But nursing is still a very respect PROFESSION, because it remains predominantly women's work. Maybe this is the main reason women and are work is being threatened, denigrated or erased. 40 yrs a nurse and counting.
Great piece, but can you footnote where Arturo Dominguez would have gotten the 100 million deportation goal? I have searched and consistently find that Miller's goal is 1 million per year. This is Nazi like and horrific, but not the same as 100 million, which, as you point out, is more than the 51.9 million immigrants of all statuses in this country.
I'm going to forward this to a contact I have. In hopes that it can be used to prod some people in government, who would be as disgusted as I am about this situation, to do something about it. Thank you for the piece. Stay safe.
That sounds like what the Chinese have been doing to "keep track of" their population. Sounds really good ... in a perfect world where everybody running and using the system are incorruptible and interested only in the welfare of the folks they are watching.
That will happen when they find the very last digit of the mathematical constant pi.
The only difficulty with that, I think, is our tribal nature.
Liberals in general think that our "tribe" consists of all human beings, at least. Conservatives are far more discriminating in their tastes. "All of us together" is just too dangerous a concept for them.

I think we need to focus on the people who are indifferent to 'politics' instead of MAGA. I've realized over time that a lot of people have no idea what is really happening in this world. We need to share this information in our communities and with our loved ones. Show them the reality that many are blind too.
You are correct in wanting to focus on those who are indifferent. Indifference (especially to other humans) is the real crime. Not just here, but throughout history.
I’ve tried. Some of my family are MAGA and some are like you said “indifferent” to what is really happening. My parents are in their 90’s and have always voted Republican. I don’t think they have any real clue as to what is happening because their church is heavily into their version of God and Jesus. But the others are down right evil in their thinking about immigrants and the way they laugh at any emotional aspect of humanizing them that I try to show.
I have stopped talking to the zealots in my family. I no longer respect them or tolerate their beliefs.
I have two siblings who told me they wanted more ICE, more deportations. Suffice it to say I am no longer on speaking terms with either of them. They voted for T**** on this issue, and against my grandchildren. I will grant them no absolution. They are now my sworn enemy, and will remain such.
One of my points was about my grandchildren who are of mixed heritage. I am frightened for them every day. I asked one of the brothers if they understood the danger they are in and he sent a laughing emoji. A laughing emoji. That scared me to my very core. . If your own family thinks this is funny, what will others do to them given the chance?
Instead of wanting to try to change his mind, he too became my enemy from within. I’ll never forgive that.
Thank you again, Dissent. The detail you relate is excruciating to imagine, more excruciating because it is, in fact, the REALITY created by the appallingly inhumane crew assembled by this trumpian regime. These who have no regard for human consequences must surely be a human sub-species.
I continue to believe that it is so critical to keep awareness of this rampant cruelty, violence, and debasement of our sisters and brothers out front! It is unbelievable to millions of our citizens, and terribly, frighteningly revealing of who our current 'leaders' are. Of course, we know that the cruelty is not new, millions have suffered over our 250 years, but the publically expressed intention and the reprehensible scale is new.
This can not be who We, The People of the United States of America are. We who believe in democratic principles and lived democracy are called - have a mandate even- to stand determined - as best we can - against such inhumanity. I think our baseline consciousness has been formed by the innumerable advertisements and commercials we see that have been carefully engineered to catch our attention and leave an impression, but are generally void of content.
We occasionally have politicians of goodwill, Jimmy Carter comes to mind, but they generally have a hard time being appreciated for who they are. Carter, for example, was especially hated by evangelical Christians, who claim to be carrying the torch for morality.
My only hope is that our current difficulties will alert us to the need to actually care about character

It's hard to comprehend the extent of the cruelty and power-grabbing immorality that is affecting each of us directly or indirectly. It's very frightening. The worst part is the feeling of helplessness that comes from the constant unanswered question: "What can we do?" Short of a miracle, it's hard to know!!! Thank you for your work.
