In Canada we use paper ballots and scrutineers. Can’t be hacked. As a citizen who has taken part in a recount as a scrutineer, I really really trust this system. Every party is represented fully in watching over the electoral process. Just a suggestion.

As a voter in one of eight US states who all vote by mail, I am very comfortable with our system and counting our votes.

I am convinced, however, that votes were fraudulelently altered and miscounted in other states. We need massive changes in voting software. We need every vote on paper ballots.

I would trust universities to count the ballots.

True, but then there is physical evidence. I recall with horror and disgust how Kavanaugh led incorrigibles in screaming and shouting at very senior citizen volunteers in Florida in 2000. Total disrespect for them and for process of voting. Gave me an inkling of what Blacks have gone through to be able to vote and have their votes counted. Al Gore should never have conceded, and SCROTUS should never have been given opportunity to void the remaining Florida ballots, hanging chads or not.

It's not the ballot, rather it is the automated way the ballots are "COUNTED" (software) and its possibility to be tampered with, which includes verifying the counting machine has not been tampered with, that it is certified by a legitimate source (not just compromised 3rd parties). And that someone hasnt fed a bunch of fake paper ballots thru the counting machine, such as happened sometimes when many ballots showed the person voted for president but left everything else blank.

Wish I could believe what you say. But all 7 swing states going for trump and how many Blue counties flopped Red with zero going the other way and the way totals in these flopped counties were all tabulated in such a way as to not trigger automatic recounts is just all too much to call it coincidence.

I’m relieved to hear this. ( And yes, I love the word “scrutineer.” ) but.. don’t you still have voting software? Are the paper ballots tabulated by hand or by machine? Sorry.. I guess I just wonder where, then, is the concern about vote alterations coming from?

Who is DB and what are that id's qualifications to infer safeguards are in place when, it appears, safeguards are not in place?

DB has 50 followers.

Only the unpaid subscribers show up, about 25 of them. Many have like 3 entries to their substack. Thin to trivial as a 'follower'.

Is DB, like many other Substack players, a 'front' to be one drop in an orchestrated ocean of many individual commentators; a detractor, questioner, designed to throw doubt in an coordinated effort to erode critical commentary?

This type of effort must have a name that we can brand them with, to draw attention, quickly, to the subversive elements arranged to obscure factual reportage.

If you can get over yourself and read what was said:

1. What factual basis do you have to critique the statements made in the article? From whence does your belief in the checks and balances of the internal software derive in the face of a statement that these selfsame checks are actually compromised?

You stated the already covered sub routines, defended their integrity, without a shred of additional evidence that would support your premise.

2. This led me to wonder at your credentials, so I peaked at what was available to me. What was available gave me no further understanding of your credentials to promulgate these opinions.

3. This lack of obvious credibility for your opinions gave rise to my second musing, derived from my observing the gradual twitter/x-ifying of Substack, that your profile on a cursory glance looked more bot-like than expert-like. The bot-like operator technique of producing contrary arguments to a researched position that will be layered upon by several other such opinions, gradually getting surlier and surlier until the obfuscation of facts is complete.

Your profile was MERELY used as an example to frame my question of how to proactively profile, document, and ultimately address the increasingly organized and coordinated refutation of facts that is so endemic on media platforms.

I am older and not a media type and see the problem but not the solution.

I’ll respond to your direct messages shortly. I’m just stepping out to an appointment. But here’s the thing: you keep saying machine fraud would be too “dumb” to attempt because it’s supposedly easy to catch. That sounds nice, but it’s not backed by reality. In 2005, Harri Hursti showed he could flip votes on Diebold machines just by inserting a memory card, and the fake results looked completely normal. Officials said they would have certified them without knowing anything was wrong. More recently, in Coffee County, Georgia, Trump operatives were given access to Dominion machines and copied their software, which was later shared online. These weren’t hypotheticals. They happened. And when audits take place after certification, like Rhode Island’s did in 2020, or fail to examine software-level tampering like the configuration changes approved under ECO 1188, none of the safeguards you’re relying on would catch it. You can think it’s dumb all you want. That doesn’t stop it from being possible or from happening.

Agreed…years ago, I knew a good friend who worked in IT for/on the “D” brand of voting machines (before final production) here in CO when they were just rolling out new machines…they did actually flip some vote while users were using/testing the electronic voting machines…software testing and quality control was an issue when they rolled out, but it supposedly had fixed it about 20 yrs ago…

Paper ballots & receipts are definitely a good thing!!

But if the machines certifiers are compromised surely they could match any changes to the electronic key you mention with the malware they put or allowed to be put in individual machines. I don’t know the expression in the digital age but we used to say Figures don’t lie but Liars figure.

And why only 2 certifiers? And both seemingly compromised. Seems too important to not have someone checking the checkers.

Perhaps you are the man for the job?! You’re not a trumptard, are you?

I am very concerned about 2026. But it might be more complicated when there are 435 house seats to deal with. I believe any foul play would be infinitely harder

But what do I know.

I know the RepubliCONS made it so the most onerous cuts to social programs will not go into effect until after the election so the trumpers will say ‘What were you all screaming about, nothings happened to Me’ and pull the lever for the full cult ticket.

I watched it also and Harris was ahead in four swing states until they had a fake bomb threat in all swing states. Your comments remind me of a parent volunteer providing all sorts of “you should do this and that” but don’t bother to help see it thru. Proofread that! Dissent is at least doing her best to provide insight into the corrupt and ridiculous elections for the last 20 years! This is what happens when we allow TECHNOLOGY to do the work. Identity theft didn’t happen at the levels we have seen before we had all the convenience based technology out there.

Get rid of the election machines. Go back to markers and ballots. Enough is enough. No more election ballot counters. Sick and tired of this bullshit already. Clearly both sides have seen discrepancies for a while now and have done nothing to fix it. Pissed me off that all of us have been duped for years. Trump was just the corrupt one to exploit it

Please keep up the great work, these voting machines & Musk are why Kamala lost, not that MAGA has taken over the populace & voted Cheeto in. It is statistically almost impossible (as in 15 x 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 to one) for him to have won every single county in every swing state by just enough to not set off alarms. Of course the alarms have been going off since, but we have bad actors and malicious Repubs hiding &/or covering up real facts. How we are to determine our future if we're not grounded in truth?

Paper ballots and hand counting first. Then the ballots could be scanned/ tabulated. Would be the only way to ensure a secure vote count. In all 50 States and territories. The Military/overseas vote is a whole different ballots game. I have no idea how to secure these votes. We need new vote counting equipment and software programs. And get rid of these Certification Companies and their staff.

Who is writing this substack article? While I think it is very possible that the 2024 election was stolen by not only suppressing who could vote but by outright fraud & manipulation of voting machines we need more proof in each state where it is suggested fraud occured. Given that in the next election the current administration will be overseeing the vote there has to be a way to double check the tallies unless thru lawsuits there are injunctions preventing the use of current voting machines & their companies. While slow, physical counts might be necessary to either confirm or challenge voting results. How does that get done?
