There's something I want to mention here tho, since I've been aware of unusual things with voting machines - in particular, a young man in 2004 (post-election) was interviewed on CNN & said he was hired to put "code" in Diebold voting machines for, "Remote Vote-changing Capability". That struck me as strange... Like, WHY would they need such a thing?!!? Thought I'd hear much more about it, but NEVER again heard it mentioned, nor was that interview aired again! It's bothered me ever since!
I know it was Diebold machines, do just listened for any mention. Few tears larer, there was a big electronics show in Vegas - "not my thing" usually - can barely work my smartphone sometimes. Not making it mandatory to vote (in Aus it’s mandatory to at least have your name ticked off a roll to say you voted. Some people then either don’t fill in the paper or donkey vote, that’s their right)
Allowing convicted criminal to run for the highest office in the land, but wouldn’t be eligible to drive a school bus.
To have the main day of voting on a working Tuesday (we use Saturday as our main voting day, however, you are able to vote early if you can’t make the Saturday.

That's correct. Actually since 1956 when Eisenhower won his 2nd of 2 elections. Nixon cheated in both of his elections. In 1968 he sabotaged peace talks in Vietnam, & just barely won the election over Humphrey. Reagan won his re-election in 1984 apparently fairly, but had he not cheated in 1980 by sabotaging the agreement Carter was making with the Iranian president to release American prisoners, he probably wouldn't have been president in 1984 & had the advantage of incumbency, or necessarily even been the Republican nominee then.

The first thing you have to have to de-democratize the election system is a Senate Majority that makes it their mission to manipulate SCOTUS picks and votes. Enter Mitch McConnell. The Robert’s court has an extreme right leaning, pro-business/corporation, and unitary executive bias thanks to the Heritage Foundation’s long term strategies. Blocking Obama’s nominee for being ‘too close to the election’ yet squeaking in Amy Coney Barrett weeks prior to an election was blatantly crooked. Kavanaugh had very suspicious financial meddling prior to his nomination and the short ‘break’ before his Senate vote to have the charges against him investigated was a sham: the Trump admin forbade them to do the work on the leads. Add Leonard Leo’s and Koch Bro’s bribes to Thomas and Alito (at least) and is it any wonder the obscene and opaque campaign funding since Citizens United, the defanging of the Voting Rights Act and immediate escalation in local suppression tactics, and blatantly partisan ‘shadow docket’ interventions have eroded Democracy? The Lewis Bill put forward by Biden would have set transparency for funding, made suppressive tactics illegal, but we had a 1 vote majority and selfish egotists Sens Manchin and Sinema trashed the bill. How history could have been entirely different had that Bill passed.
The USA also relied on unwritten or loosely written protocols and formalities for guardrails far too much. The nightmare -scenario President feared by the Founders has run right through those and is currently the bull in the China shop of the Judicial System.

Yes we’ve also got our independent Australian Electoral Commission, and preferential voting as well as the other differences/advantages mentioned. The ‘machine’ counting baffles me - so open to corruption. Not saying we in Aus don’t have our problems but election corruption is not one of them.
2. Gerrymandering being common every 6 months, often done by unelected and appointed non-public councils/committees.
3. People in prison often can't vote and even if legally allowed often don't have their votes counted at all, which doesn't bode well for a country with the largest private prison system.
4. Politicians can invest public funds into stocks for their own private benefit.
They are all over the South & other red states, especially in states where the Republican candidates consistently fared better than their poll numbers, winning a statistically improbable proportion of tossup races in states whose electoral apparatus was controlled by Republicans. These machines have been historically problematic, owned & managed by Trump-loving conservatives.
Based on normal distribution, ALL SEVEN swing states would not have gone for Trvmp. There would have been one or two outliers. This gave me pause on Nov 7th.
There were discussions and comments around this on Planet Critical at the time - around voting machines and the massive anomaly of the swing state results. And musk. I've been shocked at the lack of discussion since . But then, democrats seemed focussed on making sure repubs were in power this time round, adding to the vibe of one party two faces good cop bad cop authoritarian nastiness. Also, the Al Gore election, the blatant use of repub judges stopping the count and calling the election - that took a British journalist to point out and investigate, and uncover the massive voter purges that also had been going on. It's all too little too late for Palestine, for ecosystems, for extinctions. Tar sands are operating. Most money, extracted from living systems, stills funnels to destruction of more.
What can people do differently to voting? These steps, these Bloom investigations, seem critical action. Somewhere we have to link them, and then to action. Right now? The Midleen is sailing to Gaza with Greta, thousand are preparing to march to Rafah as support, the Yukon tribes have won back 78,000 acres of the real world. More people are growing local cooperatives. And this type of investigation and writing is shedding light and reinforcing humanity.
This seems to explain why trump said, before the election, that he didn't need any more votes. It also shows that he was aware and involved in this fraudulent criming. If this is proved in court then the president has illegally manipulated himself into office and must be removed. This should not have to wait until September for a first hearing. It is far too important and should be initiated now, whilst there is still some true legality left in place. There may not be by September.

As an Aussie watcher of US politics, it amazes me how bad your voting system is from top to bottom.
The amount of money required to run for President is completely open to corruption at the highest level.
Not making it mandatory to vote (in Aus it’s mandatory to at least have your name ticked off a roll to say you voted. Some people then either don’t fill in the paper or donkey vote, that’s their right)
Allowing convicted criminal to run for the highest office in the land, but wouldn’t be eligible to drive a school bus.
To have the main day of voting on a working Tuesday (we use Saturday as our main voting day, however, you are able to vote early if you can’t make the Saturday.
To have different voting rules in each state for a federal election 🤪
To use machines, that can be manipulated as in this article (Aus has paper voting & non partisan voter admin/counting people)
Probably others too that I can’t think of at the moment.

Many of us are aware of these deficiencies of our electoral system, yet it serves the plutocrats that run our government, media, economy & society & their corrupt sycophants, so nothing gets done. Overly expensive & long campaigns where money usually determines the winners, an undemocratic Electoral College, gerrymandering to skew a state's representation to favor a certain party, manipulable voting machines, constitutionally ineligible criminals allowed to run for office, no holiday or day off for Election Day, widespread efforts to suppress & purge certain groups of potential voters rather than encouraging all eligible citizens to vote, suspicious abnormalities in election results not being investigated, at least when they're "won" by known cheaters & fascists... And Democrats have loved to claim that we have the most failproof electoral system in the world while Republicans cry fraud & challenge elections which they lose despite themselves cheating.

That's correct. Actually since 1956 when Eisenhower won his 2nd of 2 elections. Nixon cheated in both of his elections. In 1968 he sabotaged peace talks in Vietnam, & just barely won the election over Humphrey. Reagan won his re-election in 1984 apparently fairly, but had he not cheated in 1980 by sabotaging the agreement Carter was making with the Iranian president to release American prisoners, he probably wouldn't have been president in 1984 & had the advantage of incumbency, or necessarily even been the Republican nominee then.

The first thing you have to have to de-democratize the election system is a Senate Majority that makes it their mission to manipulate SCOTUS picks and votes. Enter Mitch McConnell. The Robert’s court has an extreme right leaning, pro-business/corporation, and unitary executive bias thanks to the Heritage Foundation’s long term strategies. Blocking Obama’s nominee for being ‘too close to the election’ yet squeaking in Amy Coney Barrett weeks prior to an election was blatantly crooked. Kavanaugh had very suspicious financial meddling prior to his nomination and the short ‘break’ before his Senate vote to have the charges against him investigated was a sham: the Trump admin forbade them to do the work on the leads. Add Leonard Leo’s and Koch Bro’s bribes to Thomas and Alito (at least) and is it any wonder the obscene and opaque campaign funding since Citizens United, the defanging of the Voting Rights Act and immediate escalation in local suppression tactics, and blatantly partisan ‘shadow docket’ interventions have eroded Democracy? The Lewis Bill put forward by Biden would have set transparency for funding, made suppressive tactics illegal, but we had a 1 vote majority and selfish egotists Sens Manchin and Sinema trashed the bill. How history could have been entirely different had that Bill passed.
The USA also relied on unwritten or loosely written protocols and formalities for guardrails far too much. The nightmare -scenario President feared by the Founders has run right through those and is currently the bull in the China shop of the Judicial System.

Yes we’ve also got our independent Australian Electoral Commission, and preferential voting as well as the other differences/advantages mentioned. The ‘machine’ counting baffles me - so open to corruption. Not saying we in Aus don’t have our problems but election corruption is not one of them.

Don't forget these.
1. Lobbying not only being legal but celebrated
2. Gerrymandering being common every 6 months, often done by unelected and appointed non-public councils/committees.
3. People in prison often can't vote and even if legally allowed often don't have their votes counted at all, which doesn't bode well for a country with the largest private prison system.
4. Politicians can invest public funds into stocks for their own private benefit.

Voting machines are, in and of themselves, not a bad thing and makes counting votes much faster and more secure.
However, it also requires strict transparency of the entire counting process and algorithm behind it. Which we do not have.
ES&S was curiously the one voting machine company that FOX News did not defame, which I thought was sus at the time. Used in Texas.
They are all over the South & other red states, especially in states where the Republican candidates consistently fared better than their poll numbers, winning a statistically improbable proportion of tossup races in states whose electoral apparatus was controlled by Republicans. These machines have been historically problematic, owned & managed by Trump-loving conservatives.

I've been shocked at the lack of discussion since . What can people do differently to voting? These steps, these Bloom investigations, seem critical action. Somewhere we have to link them, and then to action. Right now? More people are growing local cooperatives. And this type of investigation and writing is shedding light and reinforcing humanity.

This seems to explain why trump said, before the election, that he didn't need any more votes. It also shows that he was aware and involved in this fraudulent criming. If this is proved in court then the president has illegally manipulated himself into office and must be removed. This should not have to wait until September for a first hearing. It is far too important and should be initiated now, whilst there is still some true legality left in place. There may not be by September.
