I will never understand why the gestapo ICE army feel they have to dress & act like they are headed to a war zone, with guns drawn, heavy armor and faces hidden. These immigrants are only trying to make a living. Yes, the majority are in-country illegally with no documents, but gestapo ICE police look and act more like terrorists when they show up at places like this.

Thank you for writing this story. Charges should be brought, at least voluntary manslaughter. Or even homocide. But we know they wont. RIP Jaime.

361 workers were kidnapped from the Carpinteria and Camarillo greenhouses. Only 4 employees had criminal records according to DHS. 4 US citizens were arrested. ICE attempted to access the facilities on June 10 and June 12, both times they denied access because they could provide warrants. On July 10, it was a Government Gangsta operation with National Guards in humvees, SWAT vehicles, US Marshals in unmarked SUVs, US Marshal bus and Blackhawk helicopter and a massive group of ICE thugs in camo and masks. They kidnapped the entire workforce at the Camarillo greenhouse. DHS claims ICE was not chasing Jaime Alanis and other workers on the roof. They did not fire rubber bullets. He fell. His death was an unfortunate incident. Bullshit! He was murdered. ICE, DEA and whoever else was involved in this travesty of justice must be stopped now. Kudos to Dissident in Bloom once again telling the stories of the voiceless victims.👊🏽👊🏽

This is homicide pure and simple! The Constitution says that someone has to have a warrant before going on private property. I don’t see a warrant. The owners should sue the britches off the DHS, Homan, Noem, and Stephen Miller for this!!! This is the Gestapho in the US and it must be stopped.

Listen, everything this shitty administration is doing is authored by: way the fuck too much money in the hands of a few. Free-market and unregulated capitalism is NOT the same thing.

It's our country, all of us country! It doesn't belong to rich pricks who convince themselves they are better people than you! Better to lead and make decisions, they are NOT! They lie and cheat. They "buy" what they want, they have no need for social systems that protect, educate and serve public good.

They steal public wealth and line their pockets with ill-gotten gains; and we allow it!!

Let's stop them! Let all of us stop them!

Trump is a moron, backed by morons that push moronic ideas. And now, they are in every tier of government filling our country with stupid specticals that are damaging and killing good people.

Shared. Thank you . You write beautifully. This makes me cry… my father didn’t has e to leave our country , but he worked construction, 4, 5,7, 10,12 hours drive from home, only coming home at weekends, if he was lucky. Often he would be away for 30 days at a time, to pay for the mortgage, put food on the table… don’t get me wrong: Mom worked too. She paid car bills, gas, insurance, utilities, property tax, home insurance, etc. you know how it is… so many bills.

He had to work far from home, my precious wonderful, magical “Dada”…sometimes I tried to hide in his duffle. I slept on the sofa, waiting for him to come home… waiting for him to scoop me into his arms, and lift me into the sky.

Daddy’s teach their kids to fly. They teach us fortitude. They teach us to take risks.

They teach us to tolerate things we don’t like- like being quiet, waiting our turns, respecting our Moms and siblings and Elders. Dads teach us to dream and to reach beyond the comfort zone, to try new things, and to be prepared to be hurt and get back up- lessons you need to succeed in life.

I remember falling- off my bike, from trees, off a dock, out of a boat… Dad picking me up, wiping my tears, looking at me carefully, telling me to stop crying, asking in a quiet, serious voice “Hey, are you ok? Does anything hurt?” Maybe I might say “My knee”

He would look at me from arms length, then look at the knee. Not “kiss it better” , like Mom. No, Dad would examine it. And say “It’s fine. You are ok!”

Or “Oh let’s see. Yeah, there’s defiantly a scrape there . You got it good, hey? You are ok, we will fix you right up… then he would get his super first aid kit, and iodine, band aids and a thousand other things…

He would make me feel better, and taught me how to pick up, keep calm, and carry on.

I don’t know who will teach these lessons to Jamie’s daughter now , but it won’t be him. And nothing we can do will change that.

Zev, this is a beautifully written story about a human tragedy and expresses so well what all decent Americans feel. Thank you for it. My understanding is the Mexican POTUS and government are involving themselves in what happened to this poor man. It’s about time for them to put pressure on the Trump regime to stop terrorizing and abusing Mexican citizens. Many of the migrants working in our fields have a legal type of visa to be doing it. They are housed in dormitory settings the farm owners provide, and are working to send money home to their families in Mexico. They don’t deserve to be terrorized to the point of falling 30 feet trying to escape men wearing war gear. This just has to stop. Immigrants are the engine of our economy. We need them and they need us. Thank you Zev for your reporting. Yes the photos are upsetting but as far as I’m concerned all Americans should be forced to view them. We have to see the reality of what our country has become.

Thank you so much for your heartfelt response. I just want to clarify that while Zev shared the piece, the article was actually written by me. I deeply appreciate Zev helping spread it because this story matters, and the more people who read it, the better.

What happened to Jaime Alanis is beyond politics. It’s about humanity, dignity, and the horrifying consequences of a militarized immigration system that treats workers like enemies. You're absolutely right that many of these individuals do have legal visas, or are seeking protection they have a right to request. Yet they are hunted, traumatized, and in this case, killed.

Your point about the Mexican government stepping in is crucial. Transnational pressure may be one of the only things that can force accountability now.

Thank you for your clarification. Your article is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve read in a long time. It’s a piece to be proud of. I was obviously confused as to the writer. My observation of Zev is that he has a kind and gentle soul so I just assumed it was his writing. Thank you so much for shedding light on this man’s unnecessary tragedy, but also putting a spotlight on what is happening to so many other’s we haven’t heard about. Much gratitude and love going your way for your wonderful, heartfelt reporting. ❤️

If stopping illegal immigration is such a "serious problem" for this administration, then why is there STILL no one arresting the employers who recruit and hire illegal immigrants?

I suspect the employers are assuming that as soon as Trump rounds up all the immigrants and crashes the economy, they'll have all the rest of us to replace them (kids included), since by then there will be no more labor laws or unions, and we'll all be too desperate and starving to argue, and their profits will skyrocket. Just like during the Great Depression, which was also engineered by the oligarchs. Hey, if it worked once, it'll work again, right?! What a brilliant plan, huh?

I hope this information has been sent to Amnesty International.

The more evidence, the more likely the world will be able to sanction and speak out publicly about what the Trump regime is doing.

They cannot be allowed to get away with what they are perpetrating.
